Why Choose A Resin-Bound Driveway For Your Home?
Laying a new driveway for your home is not something that you are going to do very often, so you need to consider all the different materials and the pros and cons of each.
One way of laying a driveway is the use of resin. A driveway can be either resin-bound or resin-bonded. Resin-bound is produced by mixing aggregates with a clear resin binder and this is then applied to the surface and provides a smooth finish. Resin-bonded surfacing is a different process because the resin is applied to the surface and the aggregates are then scattered on top giving a textured finish to the driveway.
At Base Driveways, we produce resin driveways in Kent using a variety of different coloured aggregates and this means that you can select something that matches the walls of your home or something that contrasts with them.
A resin-bound driveway is cold mixed on site in a process that ensures that every stone is completely covered in resin. As the mix is laid, minute voids are formed and this means that the driveway allows water to drain through so that you don’t have puddles lying on the surface and, worse still, freezing in the winter weather. You don’t want to get out of your car on to a patch of ice.
SUDS Compliant
This also means that your driveway will be SUDS compliant – SUDS standing for Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems, which is a water management system that the Environment Agency introduced in order to manage flood risk and water quality.
A resin-bound driveway doesn’t require planning permission because government legislation in 2008 means that it is not required for areas of less than 5 square metres or if the surface is permeable.
Not only is a resin-bound driveway aesthetically pleasing, but it is also sustainable and should last up to 25 years or even longer. It is resistant to weather conditions, and it doesn’t fade and lose colour in sunlight. There are also no loose stones to sweep, and weeds won’t grow. A regular brush over and an occasional power wash will keep it looking like new.
With a resin-bound driveway you also get a completely smooth surface with no loose stones which is perfect for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
